So here I am in Rotterdam, in the presence of my lovely
friend Hannah Whelan. Ellie is also
here. The trip commenced from a chance
meeting with the latter at Amsterdam Centraal and after a three hour peruse
around the capital we jumped on a train to Utrecht to see my charming friend
John. This brief stay involved a walk
and bike ride around the picturesque and historic town.
Afterwards we met Hannah ‘Wheelz’ Whelan at Rotterdam Centraal where she proceeded to direct us onto the wrong tram. After a lot of drama and tears we found ourselves in her spacious bedroom eating Fajitas which I begrudgingly helped prepare. After a brief pause to admire Hannah’s kitsch bedroom décor, we proceeded on our buoyant mission to in Hannah’s own words get ‘absolutely fucking battered’ from the delicious rum bought at the Dutch equivalent of Sainsbury’s Local. Our successful predrinks consisted of gossiping about everyone in our Leeds gang (especially Nick Suarez) and we subsequently cycled to club BED, contemplating how anyone could give a club such a shit name. After rendezvousing with Hannah’s housemates (all such lovely girls) I was given a shot of tequila and told to emulate Jake Hulyer’s infamous ‘slut-dropping ‘routine and becoming disheartened when I was told mine was shit. After a dozen or so inebriating drinks, we danced all night to music that was as fucking awful as anything could be.
Naturally, it was an amazing night and we were l indeed ‘absolutely fucking battered’. With no McDonald’s in sight but none the less ravenous, we ordered a ‘Kapsalon’; a chimera of doner meat, chips, and salad thrown together. To top off an incredibly merry and entertaining night we fell off our bikes on the cycle home provoking Hannah to shout, ‘WILL YOU PLEASE JUST FUCK OFF’, at a gentlemen bystander. Following a night next to Ellie’s excruciating drunken snoring, I discovered my foot had been injured and now I can barely walk. But in truth, my trip so far to The Netherlands has been amazing and I wouldn’t change a thing.
