alles van waarde is weerloos

Around a half of Rotterdam's population are international. Wikipedia tells me that of their 617,374 inhabitants, that half are Dutch, and the rest of the population is made up of Surinamese, Turkish, Moroccan, Arabian, and other European folk. This international environment, teamed with my international studies [my course here is titled IBCoM; International Bachelor Communication and Media], and the crazy culture diversity across my friendship groups here, has led me to experienced a wide range of worldly cuisine.

Earlier in the week, an International Food Evening was hosted for the Communication exchange students. I made some delicious scones.

In addition, look what Rotterdam offers to you for a bit of munch... loads of stuff!

The restaurant scene demonstrates its multicultural attitude. There are typically Dutch places, as well as sushi bars. I've snapped some Teppanyaki and pizza malarkey though. And an Irish pub. Guinness lads.

In spite of all of this contiMENTAL cuisine, Whitney and I have kept up our English tea drinking habits. We haven't completely avoided a Dutch touch though - our Tetley tea and milk came with 'Dutch Sprinkles'.. butter on bread and chocolate sprinkles. They love it here!

RotterDAME?

What the DAM.. are you saying you mad conductor
With my violin I have joined the 'Orkest', and it is just ridiculous. It is entirely in Dutch, so I have no idea what anyone is saying. The e-mails they send out are all foreign to me too, so its proving difficult finding out when and where the rehearsals are, let alone grasping the conductor's thoughts on the repertoire. I don't necessarily think I'm improving, but I'm having a laugh, and we're playing some nice music... have a listen!
