September is now in full swing; University has begun, the rain has started to pour, and I've been experiencing what-a-lot-of-Rotter-fun..
WHAT-A-LOT-OF-ROTTER-ART
De Wereld van Witte de With
Friends and I attended the renowned 'Witte de Withstraat' art festival, which ran from the 14th-16th Sept. This year was the 13th art collective, and as always, ran on the idea of viewers becoming participants. From dancing to the live music, slamming in the street, and climbing all over 'social structures' [inputs from Berlin's raumlaberberlin, Uberbau and StudioSpass] - participation in this Rotterdam delight was so much fun! 'Making City' by International Architecture Biennale Rotterdam
Cities boost creativity according to the IABR; an architecture involvment who have been 'making city' over the past year. This 'urbanization' has been hosting conferences, films, books, lectures, debates, along with works of art, to reinforce the importance of the future of the city. The group intended to highlight the importance in that cities have to be vigorous, sustainable, and livable for everyone; finding the right balance between people, planet, and profit. With works opening up in Istanbul later in October 2012, and links with Sao Paulo and Berlin - IABR have managed to link Rotterdam to the rest of the world. 'No cities, no future', check it! http://www.iabr.nl/EN/making_city/

WHAT THE DAM
Are these shopping baskets for the supermarket? No, they are shopping baskets for your precious items when you enter the library. Perhaps people steal your belongings in the Erasmus University Library? Who knows, its flipping strange nevertheless.
